I first started playing craps in Las Vegas casinos during the mid-1980′s. Since then, as you can imagine, I’ve logged quite a few hours at the craps table. And I’ve played craps at lots of casinos and in many games of street craps.
One thing I can tell you straight up: I’ve seen just about everything that could possibly happen in a game of casino craps. And, I’ve seen just about every type of craps player too.
Interestingly, the one thing that has revealed itself over and over again (by simple observation) during the four decades in which I’ve played craps is this: there are basically three types of craps players. Here is how I classify them.
Craps Player #1 – the player who doesn’t really understand the game of craps and, therefore, doesn’t know how to play craps correctly. This player is, at least, consistent – in that they lose on a regular basis. Let me rephrase that a little. This player loses all the time, every time.
Craps Player #2 – the player who understands the game of craps, knows how to play craps correctly, uses a solid craps strategy, but doesn’t know how to win. Yes, this player may walk away from the craps table a winner from time to time. But there’s something missing. They tend to be a net loser over the longer term.
Craps Player #3 – the player who possesses the know how to win at craps. This player understands the game of craps very well, knows how to play the game correctly, uses solid craps strategies, and walks away from the craps table a winner more often than not. They have “it” – that seemingly intangible quality that separates them from the rest of the pack. They know how to win at craps.
